About Harun Karahan

Founder and developer of FitAnalysis and Low Cal

Harun Karahan is an independent developer who builds two iPhone apps: FitAnalysis, which analyses posture and body symmetry from photos, and Low Cal, which scans restaurant menus and meals and shows what fits a daily calorie target. Every guide on this site is written by Harun Karahan too.

How the guides are written

  • Calorie, BMR and TDEE numbers use published equations, mainly Mifflin-St Jeor with standard activity multipliers. The free calorie calculator and the Low Cal app use the same maths, so the numbers in the guides match what you see in the tools.
  • Guides that make health or nutrition claims list their sources at the end, preferring government health agencies (NIH, WHO, USDA) and peer-reviewed research.
  • Each guide shows when it was published and, after a substantial revision, when it was last updated.
  • Worked examples are calculated, not rounded to look neat. If a number in a guide disagrees with its source, that is a bug. Please report it.

What the guides are not

The guides are general information for healthy adults. They are not medical advice and do not replace a doctor or registered dietitian. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, under 18, have a medical condition, take medication that affects appetite or weight, or have a history of disordered eating, get individual advice before changing how you eat.
